Baby Quilt: Complete!

I’m having a great time working on projects that our baby will one day soon enjoy. Finding the right materials can be a challenge, but I’m learning lots of crafting terms in Chinese and locating the best stores to buy the various supplies I need!

I began my first project for baby in July, and am finally done! I found the pattern “Nightingale Lap Quilt” in Aimee Ray’s Doodle Stitching book and, though I liked the overall idea, I didn’t like the specific style: it’s all creamy pinks, and I wasn’t a huge fan of the pink nightingale.

So, I sketched it out in my craftbook with the colors in fabrics I found at a local shop, used the “Two Trees” embroidery pattern from a different part of the book (a pattern for a scrapbook cover), and combined them all into the blanket you see above. I’m so glad it’s done, and cuddling with it gives me one more reminder of the little one we’ll have in our home next year!

You can see more photos of the process and finished quilt on flickr.

You sound like a true quilter to me. It is a lovely, lively quilt that I am sure will be enjoyed very much.

your quilt is beautiful! that’s one thing I really want to learn how to do someday.

I don’t know if you got my comment on my blog, but I was wondering if you have any fiber preferences for the elephant? wool, cotton, machine washable, organic, etc? also, do you prefer a smaller one (knit with dk, like most of the animals I’ve made), or a larger one (knit with worsted, like the brown bear)?

    • Thanks! I recommend the book Patchwork Quilts… it’s about quilting this style, which doesn’t require specialized equipment like a quilter’s frame. It can all just be done in your lap!!

Wool’s my favorite yarn but really for a baby, anything durable and I’ll probably be thankful for machine washable once the baby’s here and drooling and all πŸ˜€ I’m not really picky about organic. On the size, I can’t decide, so I’ll leave that one up to you. Something cuddly for a baby-sized person? πŸ˜€

Thanks so much! We think it’s so sweet you’re doing this!!
